It's hard to be competitive in the Big 12 when you go 1-15 in conference, but the Horned Frogs are 10-19 and faced with No.9 Kansas State who's (24-5, and 13-3 in the Big 12) and looking at the big prize.
The first meeting didn't go well for TCU, but not many expected them to compete with Kansas State, even before we found out just how good they really are. Rodney McGruder has been a force for the Wildcats, averaging 14.9 points a game and coming up big in the clutch. His late game heroics salvaged what would have been a terrible upset to Baylor when a strange inbounds pass inexplicably somehow never got into play.
"I was thinking of something different. But that goes for being fortunate," McGruder said of a game that seemed headed for overtime. "It worked out in our favor. That's all I can say."
Kansas State is going to need Kansas to falter if they want the title, but at this point they should be satisfied with where they're ranked and a solid 16-1 home court record.
Things haven't fared quite as well for TCU lately.
The Horned Frogs have dropped nine of 10 on the road, including all eight conference games while shooting 35.5 percent and averaging 48.8 points. TCU has dropped seven straight since stunning then-No. 5 Kansas on Feb. 6, and lost 72-63 at Texas Tech on Saturday. Most of their scoring, and entire offense for that matter, has been coming off the efforts of G Kyan Anderson, who's been asked to do too much on his own this season.
This should be a good warm-up game for Kansas State to see where they're at in their execution.
Prediction: The 1-15 conference record isn't going to change as the Horned Frogs fall to 1-16 and Kansas State keeps their momentum.
