Just when we were entering the final stages of Tebow rehab, reality decided to pay a call.
In a recent conference call with season ticket holders (yes, they do exist), New York Jets general manager John Idzik left open the chances that Tim Tebow will be on the roster at the start of the season. Which begs the question: what is he smoking?
The most divisive quarterback in the league could be back in the green and white, according to Idzik. During the call, a fan asked if Tebow would be on the roster. Idzik was vague in an almost creepy Manti Te'o fake girlfreind kind of way. "Tim, as you know, (is) currently on our roster and what we're doing is we're trying to increase competition at that postiion and positions across the board," Idzik said. "We're going to see who we're able to bring on board and let it play out this offseason and into training camp."
Check me if I'm wrong, but not only did that competition prove that you didn't want him as Mark Sanchez' second banana, but you even let Greg McElroy get more playing time. For those keeping score, Greg McElroy was a 7th round pick in 2011.
Once again, the Jets have no shame. Instead of releasing Tebow outright and have a chance somewhere, they've decided to string him along. It can't be to drive up his price, because even Jacksonville didn't want him and they're so bad that even the Jets can look down on them.
Tim Tebow was lied to by Rex Ryan and ownership about what his role would be before he was traded to the Jets in 2012. Now, he's being lied to by a new GM who says there will be a competition. Management believes in Tebow so much that they're in talks to sign QB signing David Garrard. Seriously, who does this?
The Jets, that's who.
