Actor Harrison Ford has officially signed on to co-star in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," the long-awaited sequel to Will Ferrell's 2004 comedy film.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the 70-year-old actor will play a well-respected veteran broadcaster in "Anchorman 2." He will be working alongside a cast of A-list comedic actors including the original stars of the first film Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and David Koechner in addition to "Bridesmaids" star Kristin Wiig. The original director and writer, Adam McKay, will also be a part of the film, which has just begun filming in Atlanta.
In addition to "Anchorman 2," the actor has signed on to play a number of other roles including the Brooklyn Dodgers' general manager Branch Rickey in "42," costars in Orson Scott Card's sci-fi novel "Ender's Game," and the thriller "Paranoia" with actors Gary Oldman and Liam Hemsworth. There is also speculation that he will also play Han Solo in J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII."
Ford isn't the only new face to join the "Anchorman" sequel. Terrence Stamp may play an Australian broadcasting tycoon, James Marsden is rumored to be playing a rival newsman, and there's speculation that Ferrell's frequent comic foil John C. Reilly will play a supporting role.
This isn't Ford's first time playing an anchorman. Back in 2010, he played Mike Pomeroy in "Morning Glory."
"Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" is scheduled to open in theaters later this year in December.
