Laura Carmine has been cast as the villain in William Levy's new telenovela "La Tempestad."

Carmine told her Twitter fans that she was happy to be the villain in the new soap opera. She thanked her fans for all the support throughout her career.

Jessica Coch was originally slated to play the villainous role in the series but stated on her Twitter account that she will be a very different character from the ones she is used to playing. She then stated that she hopes her fans will like it.

Carmine added that she is excited to work with her friend Coch because she is a great actress.

Carmine recently completed work on "Quien Eres Tu?" as the protagonist. She also starred in "Amor Bravio" and "Por Ella Soy Eva." She came to fame after her role in "Ni Contingo Ni Sin Ti" for which she won the best revelatory performance at the TVyNovela awards. Coch starred in "Un Refugio Para el Amor," as the antagonist and in 2009' "Mi Pecado." She also starred in "Cuando Me Enamoro" for which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the awards.

"La Tempestad" also stars Ximena Navarrete in her telenovela debut and Ivan Sanchez was also recently cast as the villain.

The soap opera is set to start principal photography this week will shoot the locations scenes first. The production will move to Boca del Rio, Veracruz once final contracts are being signed for permits. Production will then move to the Televisa studios.

The series also stars Diana Bracho, Cesar Evora, Alfonso Herrera, and Luis Manuel Avila. Salvador Mejia will produce the series based on the Colombian telenovela "La Tormenta" and is set to air in Mexico in May 2013 on El Canal de la Estrellas. A U.S release has not been issued.
