The Ronaldo to Manchester United saga has been one of the biggest stories in world soccer since December. The superstar has stated that he wants to "come home" and recent reports indicate that he is willing to take a massive pay cut. Madrid is rumored to be willing to move the player this summer to obtain funds to rebuild the team. Manchester United and sponsor Nike are supposedly behind the move and have even prepared a package to bring back the superstar in exchange for a player or two. But one of the major players in the transaction is not as optimistic about Ronaldo's return to the home that saw him rise to stardom.
"There hasn't been anything to encourage me to think Cristiano would come back here," Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told the media. "As far as I am aware, there is nothing in it at all."
"Ronaldo has got two years left on his contract and it seems to me it is all part of the negotiations that are going on about a new deal," Ferguson noted. "Maybe his agent is playing the game. I think it is false hope."
Back in December, Ronaldo made it clear that he would love to "come home" to the Old Trafford. "It felt very good there, it was like a family. I had six great years there and am still friends with my team-mates," he stated. "It is thanks to Manchester United that I am here playing for Real Madrid. Without them, I wouldn't be the player I am today."
According to The Sun, Ronaldo is willing to accept an offer of 70 million pounds to play for United; Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly offering Real Madrid 130 million pounds for the superstar.
Ronaldo will return to Manchester for the first time since he left in 2009 as Madrid takes on Manchester United in the second leg of the Champions league 2013 Round of 16 second leg.
