Sir Alex Ferguson is known for being forward with his statements and ideas. The Manchester United boss has made a great deal of statements regarding the upcoming tilt with Real Madrid and insists that the Spanish giants have already played their best game of the year.
Ferguson was in attendance for Madrid's 3-1 win over Barcelona last Tuesday and felt that the team was terrific.
"They were fantastic and every part of their game was spot-on," said Ferguson. "You get that sometimes, I've experienced it myself. You need 11 players to play well but, on odd occasions, you have 11 players who are absolutely superb."
He added, however, "I don't think they'll reach that height on Tuesday. I think it was a one-off performance...They'll still play well and we'll have to make sure we play well. But the other night they really hit the heights, it was a top performance."
What Ferguson does not comment on is the fact that Madrid went on to defeat Barcelona Saturday with most of its starters sitting on the bench to start the match.
The biggest story of the match will undoubtedly be Ronaldo's return to the stadium that witnessed his rise to stardom. The Portuguese superstar expects a warm welcome at the Old Trafford.
"I'm sure the United fans would receive me well. 'If I score against them it would be spectacular, a beautiful sensation," said Ronaldo. "I can't say what I'll do. It would be something spontaneous, but I'd love to be in that situation."
He added, "In any case, it would be a good sign if we progress and I score. Real Madrid's intention is to win.'
Kickoff starts at 2:45 PM EST on Tuesday afternoon.
