When Cristiano Ronaldo stated that he was "sad" earlier this season, many pundits stated that the player was upset that Madrid would not give him a new contract that would make him the highest paid player in the world. However, those who think the Ronaldo's only value is money were seemingly proven wrong by a recent report that the Portuguese superstar was willing to take a pay cut to rejoin Manchester United.
According to The Sun, "Ronaldo has made his advisors aware he would sacrifice the huge pay-day to move back to Old Trafford for HALF the amount [of the 130 million pounds that Paris Saint-Germain is willing to pay for the star]."
Ronaldo has stated on a number of occasions that he would love to "come home" to the club that made him a superstar. "It felt very good there, it was like a family. I had six great years there and am still friends with my team-mates," he stated back in December. "It is thanks to Manchester United that I am here playing for Real Madrid. Without them, I wouldn't be the player I am today."
It seems that the feelings are mutual as Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has continuously stated how impressed he is with Ronaldo. "Cristiano is mature now. He's 28 and he's at the peak of his career," said Ferguson. "With the fitness he's got - he never misses a game and he's never injured - you expect him to play at his peak until 32 or 33 easily."
The Sun adds that Manchester may look to buy Ronaldo 60 million pounds and will even trade Nani to Real Madrid for the star. According to the publication, "United's major sponsor Nike, who also sponsor Ronaldo, are firmly behind the move."
