The "Man of Steel" movie has yet to be released and there are already rumors that a sequel could be in the works.
According to Movie Hole, screenwriter David Goyer "may have accepted" an offer to write the sequel to the Superman reboot. The report indicates that "Man of Steel" has screened for a number of audiences and the word of mouth has been positive. JoBlo even published one review in which the critic stated that the film was "the best movie of the year." Because of this strong initial buzz, it looks like Warner Bros. is attempting to speed up the process to get a sequel out in the next few years and obtaining Goyer's services are a major step in that direction.
For the past few years Warner Bros. has done exceptionally well due to the strong performances of the "Harry Potter" and "Dark Knight" franchises. However, a number of its smaller franchises, including comic book movies like "The Green Lantern" and "Watchmen" failed to cash in at the box office. These poor performances have created instability for the studio and it seems that the company is investing a great deal in the new Superman film. Previous reports indicated that the company was waiting to see how well "Man of Steel" performed with audiences before green-lighting the "Justice League" movie.
"Man of Steel" will star Henry Cavill as Clark Kent (Superman), Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, and Diane Lane as Martha Kent. Michael Shannon will also play the villain General Zod. The film has received a PG-13 rating and will come out in theaters on June 14, 2013.
