Gary Oldman was a major component of the "Dark Knight" trilogy and now he will get a chance to impress audiences in the "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."
According to ComingSoon.net, the thespian will be joining the franchise sequel as Dreyfus, the leader of a human colony. The movie will be set 15 years after the reboot "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." Humanity has been wiped out and apes are currently ruling the world. A struggle begins when a group of San Francisco scientists form a resistance while lead ape Caesar (played by Andy Serkis) attempts to maintain the balance in his new society.
The film is currently slated for a May 24, 2014 release date and Jason Clarke and Kodi-Smit McPhee are among those joining Oldman in the cast. There is no news on whether James Franco, who played a major role in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes", will make an appearance. Back in December Franco stated that he was expected to make a brief cameo in the film, but with the director changes, it seems that his involvement is tentative. That film was directed by Rupert Wyatt but he stepped out due to a busy schedule. He has been replaced by Matt Reeves who previously directed "Cloverfield" and "Let Me In."
"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" grossed $176.7 million in North America and $305 million overseas.
