Rumors of a cheaper Corvette in the works for 2015 are circulating the automotive community.
The 2014 Corvette Stingray made its debut at the Detroit auto show last month, but before its release there was speculation that the new Vette was going to be outfitted with a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine.
And with the official debut of the 2014 Stingray, we all know that the rumor is false.
But that still hasn't completely put the rumors of the development of a cheaper Corvette to rest as Motor Trend reports that the automaker is indeed working on a "low-cost" Vette that may possibly hit showrooms as early as 2015.
However, if you were hoping to sport the Stingray badge for a bargain price that most likely will not happen as the 6.2-liter eight-cylinder engine and 450 horsepower that characterizes the very special Stingray will not be a part of the cheaper Vette.
But there is expected to be a 5.3-liter eight-cylinder engine that is currently being used in the General Motor's new line up pickup trucks on the rumored low-cost Corvette that is expected to produce a little less than 400 ponies.
The Corvette Coupe, the expected name for the cheap Vette, will also sport a different Fascia to set the model apart from its superior Stingray sibling.
Rumor has it that the price of the low-cost Corvette is slated to be somewhere under $50,000.
