'Jack and the Giant Slayer' Review Roundup: Nicholas Hoult's Latest Film Scores Positive Review

On March 1^st, Warner Brothers will release Bryan Singer's "Jack and the Giant Slayer."

The film, starring Nicholas Hoult and Ewan McGregor, tells the story of an ancient war between humans and a race of giants. The war is reignited when Jack, a young farmhand fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds.

The film has obtained positive reviews. Village Voice said, "Singer evokes another era of fantasy filmmaking when the illusions before our eyes were created in an artist's studio rather than a computer lab. It's more Jason and the Argonauts than Shia and the Transformers."

The Hollywood Reporter stated, "Simply in terms of efficient storytelling, clear logistics and consistent viewer engagement, Jack is markedly superior to the recent 'Hobbit.'"

Schmoes Knows also enjoyed the film stating "Bryan Singer does deliver the money shots; the beanstalks, giant attacks and a forest in the clouds make for a terrific adventure."

Variety however was not as enthusiastic and said, "Fee-fi-fo-fum, this fairy-tale retread is pretty dumb."

Singer last directed "Valkyrie" with Tom Cruise and Kenneth Branagh. He is currently directing "X-Men: Days of Future Past." The film will star Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and Anna Paquin.

Nicholas Hoult was recently seen in the box office hit "Warm Bodies." He next appear in "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Young Ones." Ewan McGregor garnered rave reviews for his performance in "The Impossible" and will next be seen in "August: Osage County" with Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.

"Slayer" also stars Stanley Tucci, Eddie Marson, and Ian McShane. The film is rated PG-13 for intense scenes of fantasy action violence, some frightening images and brief. It will play in 2,500 theaters.
