The New York Rangers will attempt to turn their season around when they host the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.
Last season's first place team has lost three straight including a 3-0 shutout loss to Montreal on Saturday night. The team was stifled by the Canadiens and Coach John Tortorella was furious about his team's effort. "We've just got to try to gain some confidence, stabilize ourselves when we lose a couple," he said. "Coming into the last three games here, we were playing pretty well. We can't get into a panic mode. We just need to get more minutes consistently out of our players."
Heading into Tuesday's tilt, the Rangers are one point out of a playoff spot. They have compiled a record of six wins, three losses, and one overtime loss at the Madison Square Garden.
The Jets have won three of four on their five-game road trip including a tremendous 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets. "It's not easy to win on the road in this League. You've gotta play a simple game and guys have to step up," said Captain Andrew Ladd, who scored his team-leading 10th goal in the win. "It's been nice so far. We've got another one to go and we'd sure like to finish it off with a win."
In that game, the Jets trailed 2-1 after one period but reeled off three straight goals in putting together the win. The Jets head into the game with 17 points, just two behind a playoff spot.
Predictions: The Rangers have a stronger overall team, but the Jets are playing with poise and confidence. Winnipeg wins this one 5-4.
