Last night, First Lady Michelle Obama shocked everyone by presenting the award for Best Picture at the 85th Academy Awards via video stream from the White House.
The FLOTUS showed off her famously toned arms in a metallic dress with a low neckline while rocking her new bangs. While most people were shocked when Mrs. Obama became the first First Lady to present an Oscar, one news agency found the way she looked very concerning and went as far as to use photoshop to change her ensemble. An Iranian news agency altered a photograph of Michelle Obama before publishing their story about her presence at the Oscars in order to fit the country's guidelines for showing images of women in the media.
In the photoshopped photo, Iran's Fars News added sleeves to cover her shoulders while the neckline was raised to cover up her chest.
In addition to Michelle Obama's dress, some the Iranian government and some media outlets were also unhappy that she gave the Best Picture award to "Argo" which they claim is an anti-Iranian film that negatively portrays the 1979 Islamic Revolution. They argue that Ben Affleck's movie about the 1979 Iran hostage crisis poses as an "advertisement for the CIA" and was endorsed by the U.S. government since it was introduced by Mrs. Obama.
In addition, Right-wing conservatives also bashed Mrs. Obama's surprise appearance at the Oscars. The Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin wrote a scathing review claiming that she felt "entitled" to "intrude" on the big Hollywood night. She added that her appearance "makes both the president and the first lady seem small and grasping. In this case, it was just downright weird."
Conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh also attacked the first lady on his Monday radio show too, calling her appearance "unneeded" and "out of place."
