On Feb. 23, the "Silver Linings Playbook" took home Best Film at the 28th annual Independent Spirit Awards.
The Oscar nominated film also won Best Director for David O. Russell, Best Actress for Jennifer Lawrence and Best Screenplay.
"The Sessions" surprised taking home two acting awards. Helen Hunt won Best Supporting Actress while John Hawkes beat out Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper for Best Actor.
After winning, Hunt stated that she was excited about winning but did not expect to win the Oscar on Sunday. John Hawkes on the other hand stated, "The Sessions was a big part of my life... 'The Sessions' is a truly independent film. Thanks Bill Macy for the wit, Helen Hunt for the guts, and Ben Lewin for the soul and everything else... I hope [this film helps] us to all see each other a little more."
Matthew McConaughey won the Best Supporting Actor accolade for Magic Mike. "Let's keep making indie movies, making specific stories and not expensive ones," he said during his acceptance speech
"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" took home the award for Best First Film and "Middle of Nowhere" won the John Cassavetes award for best film made for under $500,000.
Michael Haneke's "Amour" beat out fellow Oscar nominee "War Witch" for Best International Film while "The Invisible War" won Best Documentary.
"Beasts of the Southern Wild" won only one award for Best Cinematography even though pundits expected the Oscar nominee to sweep the awards. Derek Conolly won Best First Screenplay for the Sci Fi comedy "Safety Not Guaranteed."
The Robert Altman accolade went to "Starlet," while Adam Leon won Someone to Watch for his film "Gimme the Loot." The Producers award was given to Mynette Louie for "Stones in the Sun" while "The Waiting Room" won the Truer than Fiction award.
IFC channel will broadcast the awards ceremony at 10 p.m. EST.
