Washington Redskins fans may just get their franchise quarterback in time for the start of next season.
Robert Griffin III is recovering "way ahead of schedule," according to his orthopedic surgeon James Andrews.
Griffin underwent reconstruction surgery of his right knee in January after suffering an injury to his ACL.
"We have him well on his way. He is an unbelievable athlete, as you well know. His recovery is way ahead of schedule so far," Andrews said.
"We don't have to do much but try to hold him back, if you want to know the truth. Our whole mode for him, though, is to do what is best for his career, not necessarily what is best for the first game next season. So all of that has to be put on hold and let him get well."
And Griffin has been determined to return to the gridiron in time for next season since undergoing reconstruction surgery.
"All in for Week 1," Griffin tweeted after posting a link to an Adidas commercial.
But it seems as though the injured quarterback is starting to realize the reality of his injury as he has toned down his posts since then, admitting that he doesn't want to throw away his career by coming back sooner than he should.
Andrews, who is one of the nation's top orthopedic surgeons and is on the sidelines for every Redskins game, reconstructed Griffin's ACL in his right knee as well as repaired the torn LCL and meniscus.
