Since the inclusion of Peter Dinklage in the upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past" there has been speculation as to what the four-foot five-inch man would play in the new movie. Many speculated that he would get the role of Puck. However, it was later revealed that he would be the villain; this news prompted speculation that he would be voicing a computer generated character. Film Director Bryan Singer recently clarified that this would not be the case during an interview with IGN.
During the conversation Singer stated that he was a big fan of Dinklage and would not put him in a CG role. "He's not going to be a CGI character," Singer clarified. "He'll be himself. Not that he'll be playing Peter Dinklage, he'll be playing this character. It's not a shy character. He's just such a phenomenal actor; I'm a huge fan of Peter's and Game of Thrones. He was my first choice and I was really happy."
Singer did not reveal what character he would be playing but MTV Geek speculated that his role would be Bolivar Trask, inventor of the mutant hunting robot Sentinels. The publication supports this rumor by stating that a Variety article mentioned Dinklage's role as an "antagonist;" the word "villain" is not utilized. MTV states that the role of Trask in the comics fits this description. The character sets out to destroy mutants but eventually sacrifices himself when he realizes that they are not as bad as he originally thought.
Singer directed the first two films in the franchise but did not direct "X-Men 3: The Last Stand" because he was busy with the Superman reboot. "X-Men 3" was bashed by critics and Singer noted in the IGN interview that he regretted not doing the film. . "It was a little awkward for me to see X-Men 3, obviously," stated Singer.
X-Men: Days of Future Past opens July 18, 2014.
