In order to get kids to make healthy choices, First Lady Michelle Obama has teamed up with Sesame Street in two new public service announcements as a part of her "Let's Move" healthy eating and exercise initiative.
Big Bird stopped by the White House to film the PSAs and helped Mrs. Obama spread her message about the importance of exercise and eating fruits and vegetables.
"Hi, we're here in the White House kitchen looking for a healthy snack to eat," says the FLOTUS in one ad promoting fruits and vegetables as snacks. In the other commercial, Big Bird demonstrates fun exercises to help children fight obesity like dancing and jumping.
The PSAs marked the third anniversary celebration of "Let's Move!" which Mrs. Obama began in February 2009. In order to celebrate, the First Lady is planning to launch a two day nation-wide tour showcasing progress and announcing new ways the country is coming together around children's health next week.
According to the White House press office, Sesame Workshop "will distribute these PSAs to 320 PBS Stations, Sesame Workshop's partner channels as part of their Healthy Habits for Life Initiative."
The press release also states, "Thanks to these efforts, families now have access to more information to make healthier decisions for their children. Young people now have more opportunities for physical activity in their communities. Food in schools has been dramatically improved. More Americans now have access to healthy, affordable food closer to home. And the national childhood obesity rate has leveled off, and even declined in some cities and states."
Besides Sesame Street, pop icon Beyonce has also been an advocate for "Let's Move."
