The New York Islanders will look to end a two-game slump when they visit the surging Montreal Canadiens.
After taking down the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils over the weekend, the Islanders fell apart against the Philadelphia Flyers 7-0 on Monday. The team was expected to bounce back against Ottawa Senators and did, but the result was the same. The 3-1 loss continued to emphasize the team' inability to score 5-on-5 and its reliance on John Tavares to provide offense. Despite the team's struggles, it does not look like general manager Garth Snow is looking to make changes to his roster. "The group we have [on the Islanders] has won games this year and looked good doing it at times," Snow stated in an interview with Newsday's Arthur Staple. "If we call someone up, it'll be based on what we need at that position at a given time. We made some waiver claims at the start of the season to bolster our depth and we think that's helped with the development of our prospects in Bridgeport."
The Islanders will face a Montreal side that has won five straight and currently inhabits first place in the Eastern Conference. During their run, the Canadiens defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, and the New York Rangers. In their recent win over the Rangers, the Canadiens suffocated the Ranger's offense and created chances on the rush. "That was a pretty gutsy road game," said goalie Carey Price who finished with 24 saves on the evening. "Not easy to play against a team like that in their building. We played our style well.
This is the first meeting between the two clubs this season; the teams split last season' four games.
Predictions: The Canadiens takes down a struggling New York Islanders team 6-3.
