If you don't know him by the name of Roberto Gómez Bolaños then perhaps you know him as Chespirito, El Chavo del Ocho, El Chapulín Colorado or Dr. Chapatín.
This writer, actor, director, comedian, humorist, songwriter and poet has made Latin America laugh for 45 years and today he celebrates 84 years of life and remains as humble as when he began.
"Y yo no creí poder llegar a 2 millones de seguidores, qué cerca estoy de llegar a 5 millones. No se qué decir. Sólo ¡Gracias!, Chespirito." (I didn't think it was possible for me to get to 2 millon followers, I am not close to 5 million. I don't know what to say. Only thank you!) The Mexican actor tweeted Last saturday.
According to Univision.com, Chespirito will celebrate his birthday in the beautiful Cancun as he awaits the inauguration of a museum made in his honor.
You will be able to play in the patio, visit the houses of Don Ramon and La Chilindrina, Doña Florinda and Quico, and even La Bruja del 71 because the museum will be an exact replica of La Vencindad del Chavo (Chavo's building). The courtyard will even have an original barrel that Bolaños himself slept in when he played El Chavo, although we highly doubt that getting in it will be an option.
The museum will be located in Mexico City and it will be free for the public. It is expected to open its doors this upcoming June.
In addition to being able to explore the rooms so familiar to those who grew up watching "El Chavo del Ocho," according to ElUniversal.com. the museum will have in exposition the first scripts that Bolaños wrote and El Chavo's wardrobe including his signature hat. There will also be a multimedia room with reruns of "El Chapulín Colorado"(The Red Grasshopper), a series that made fun of superhero shows and was created in the 70s but is still playing today in many Latin America countries.
As if a museum in his name weren't enough, there is also an animated 3D movie about "El Chapulín Colorado" that will be in production this year and the next. According to ElComercio.pe, the film will tell the story of the origin of the famous character. The film is directed by Luis Jorge Arnau and scripted by Bolaños himself.
