Four people were shot dead, including the gunman, and two others were wounded in California on Tuesday by a shooter in a stolen car who later turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.
The shooting spree began at 4:45 a.m in Orange County where police responded to a report of a woman who was shot several times in a Ladera Ranch residence, authorities told the Associated Press. Less than an hour later calls of gun fire were reported in Tustin, a city 35 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.
Police in Tustin received several reports of shots being fired beginning at 5:30 a.m. to 5:55 a.m., authorities said. Police responded to the first shooting at Red Hill Avenue and Interstate 5 where they found an uninjured victim of a carjacking. A bystander in the area was shot and taken to the hospital.
The next shooting occured at State Route 55 and McFadden Avenue were a carjacking victim was found dead, police said, adding that the next report was on Edinger Avenue east of Route 55. When officers arrived on the scene they found another dead body and a wounded victim.
Police located the gunman and followed him to the city of Orange where he shot himself in the car. The shooter was only identified as a male. Identities of the victims were not released and the condition of the wounded is unknown.
"There have been other people coming forward saying they were shot at or their cars were shot at," Tustin Lt. Paul Garaven told the Associated Press, adding that so far there are no additional reports of serious injuries.
Investigators have not determined the shooter's motive or if he knew any of the victims.
