BMW announced that they are recalling 30,265 X5 models because brake vacuum lines were found to cause the power assist to fail, according to the fillings with the National Highway Safety Administration.

All X5 SUVs with V8 engines and model years from 2007 to 2010 fall under the category of cars that need to be fixed under the recall.

A check valve in the brake vacuum pump that is connected to the engine could possibly leak lubricating oil in the vacuum hose that is connected to the brake booster, which is a problem because the brake booster provides power assist.

A check valve is a one-way valve that is responsible for releasing pressure and for maintaining an airtight seal.

And when the brake booster comes into contact with oil, the power assist system could fail entirely even though the brakes would still work, according to the German automaker.

BMW dealers will replace the vacuum hose and brake booster, as well as the master cylinder if necessary.

Chrysler is also issuing a recall for 3,660 Dodge Vipers models from 2003 to 2004 because airbags have been shown to deploy without warning.

Circuits within the airbag control module may fail because of an electrical overload and cause the airbags in the Viper to deploy without reason.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the faulty airbags.
