A Maryland State Police Department spokesperson confirmed that rapper 2 Chainz was taken into custody after being arrested for marijuana possession last night in Maryland. According to the Maryland State Police, troopers stopped the van that the Def Jam recording artist was riding in for speeding on Route 50 near Easton, Md. Officers say that's when they smelled marijuana in the car. They searched the vehicle and found a backpack with a marijuana grinder and trace amounts of the drug inside of it. One of 2 Chainz's body guards claimed that the backpack belonged to him, however the hip hop artist was taken into custody for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
The hip hop artist was eventually released on a criminal citation, but not before the state troopers had the chance to take a pic with the "No Lie" rapper. The Southern rapper also didn't let the incident get in the way of his scheduled performance at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore that night. Later on, he tweeted a statement saying the "show must go on."
He also expressed his outrage over his arrest via Twitter where he wrote "Not to mention my security said it was his and they said , he don't smoke ,, how da fuk u know? Haha wut a valentines day!!!." He also tweeted that the officers who arrested him also wanted to take a personal photo with him. "Locked me up and then Wanted pictures smh [shakin' my head]," he tweeted.
A conviction could result in up to a year in jail and up to a $1,000 fine for the Grammy nominated rapper.
