The Jackson Memorial Hospital released a handful of photos on Tuesday afternoon showing a recovering Ronald Poppo, the victim in Miami's 'zombie attack' incident that took place last May 26.
The pictures display Mr. Poppo walking down the hospital facility with the assistance of nurses, and facial injuries apparently healing.
Experts originally thought that Poppo had lost more than 75 percent of his face, but pictures show a number lower than that probably at 65 or 60 percent.
Still, defining facial features such as his nose, cheeks, and eyebrows are gone and doctors have patched both sections of his eyes although they informed only one remains.
Poppo went through a series of skin-grafting surgeries where skin from the back of his head were surgically placed in the injured areas.
The Tuesday afternoon press conference was the first press conference offered by the hospital since the attack took place.
During the event, doctors informed that Poppo was recovering remarkably well and that he was responding well to the emotional trauma.
Dr. Nicholas Namias who visited Poppo earlier Tuesday, shared that a facial transplant for Ronald was being considered but that it would depend on certain circumstances including whether or not Ronald would desire one, according to ABC. Namias said that one of the things Poppo wanted to express upon meeting him was "Go Heat".
Poppo was believed to also have lost his ears, mouth, and teeth in the attack to Rudy Eugene, but the images show just the opposite.
A fundraising and donation campaign was launched on GiveForward to assist Poppo with medical bills and other expenses. For more info regarding donations, click here.
The Jackson Memorial Foundation is also receiving donations to help Mr. Poppo. Support could be sent online at this website: https://www.jmf.org/take-action-now/donations/ (Under 'Other', write 'Ronald Poppo').
