According to a new report, Harrison Ford will return as Han Solo in the upcoming "Star Wars Episode 7."
Latino Review reporter El Mayimbe broke the story on Friday and confirmed that the actor would return to the iconic role that launched his career. El Mayimbe made the announced during an appearance on Fox News Latino, where he said, "It's official. Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Star Wars in the upcoming Star Wars movies." He added, "I found that out yesterday. I did my due diligence, like I do with everything. Triple checked. Legitimate sources."
According to IGN, Latino Review has broken many big film stories that were indeed confirmed later on.
Back in November Ford stated that he had some interest in returning to the role of the smuggler. While there has been no revelation of how big the role will be, the return of Han Solo essentially indicates that the story will take place after "Return of the Jedi." If Han Solo is returning, then it is likely that Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia will make appearances in the film as well. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher previously stated that they would love to return to the franchise, so there cooperation is likely not difficult to obtain.
Han Solo's return to the Star Wars universe is not surprising. EW recently reported that Disney was working on a spin-off movie that would focus on the hero. Entertainment Weekly wrote that "the Han Solo story would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars (now known as A New Hope), so although it's possible Harrison Ford could appear as a framing device, the movie would require a new actor for the lead - one presumably much younger than even the 35-year-old Ford when he appeared in the 1977 original."
