Kate Upton discusses the struggles of being the cover model in the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The editor the issue, MJ Day, mentioned just how special a case Upton's is, which is what made her the perfect model for SI's cover for the second year in a row.
Upton's shoot in Antarctica was the first time SI had traveled to the continent for a shoot in this issue, and other models in the magazine had their shots taken in other continents across the globe. She had shots taken of her in a winter jacket with almost nothing else on and also had a few photos in body paint.
Upton said she didn't have much time to work out once she left for the southernmost part of the world, so eating right was her best ally. Past cover models such as Brooklyn Decker (who is married to Andy Roddick) say that all of the details about the shoots are kept secret until very close to when they happen, including where they will be and what the models will wear.
