Brian Williams was reportedly none too happy with NBC execs after his show 'Rock Center' was moved for a third time to a new Friday timeslot. In a piece looking at NBC's rise and fall in ratings in recent weeks, The Hollywood Reporter said that the switch angered Williams.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Friday night installment of 'Rock Center' brought decent ratings (1.3) and 5.5 million viewers. However, it contends, "NBC brass might have upset Williams with the move. He closed 'Rock Center' on Feb. 8 with a segment characterizing Friday at its 'latest resting place.'"
The report continued, "Sources as NBC News say Williams was angered that Burbank execs did not give the show the promised promotion, while plans to expand it to multiple weekly airings have been abandoned."
HuffPost Media reported that the show has been moved three previous times since debuting in November 2011, from its original Monday night on to Wednesday, then Thursday and finally Friday. Its latest move is an ominous change that could signal the demise of the show.
According to the HuffPost, Williams addressed the latest scheduling change in a segment that portrayed the show as "a nomadic settler in the West 'not wanted' on Wednesdays and displaced by 'American Idol' and 'Modern Family.'"
However, 'Rock Center' executive producer Alexandra Wallace told HuffPost that reports of William's anger couldn't be further from the truth. "Brian's take on our new time slot was truly funny and furthest thing from 'angry.' He made light of our travels through the schedule-and we are all thrilled by Rock Center's strong ratings after our Friday night debut. We look forward to settling down in our new home."
NBC has been forced to reshuffle much of its shows after a disastrous 2013 return, which saw low ratings for several shows and the cancellation of a new series, 'Do No Harm.'
