Actress and model Keira Knightley is under fire for her steamy new Coco Chanel ad which has been deemed as too hot for TV during times when children may be watching.
A complaint was filed against Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle fragrance commercial which played during the broadcast of the kid friendly movie "Ice Ages 2." According to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in the UK, Knightley's role in the ad is "sexually suggestive" and inappropriate for viewers ages nine and under.
In the ad, Knightley wakes up covered in bed sheets and sprays on the perfume before going to a photoshoot. At the shoot, she strips down and shares passionate moments with an attractive male photographer. Before she and the photographer kiss, she puts a finger to his lips and said "lock the door" and escapes before the scene heats up.
Although Chanel acknowledge that "a degree of sexual charge was common in perfume ads," the brand denied that the content in the commercial was "overtly sexual" or unsuitable for children. They said they had not received any complaints directly.
Nonetheless, the ASA ruled to prohibit this particular Chanel commercial from running during children's programming on the grounds that the photographer was directly involved in unzipping the actress's garments and that there was a suggestion that she was naked aside from a bed sheet. We also noted that there was clear sexual tension between the pair and that they appeared about to kiss on the bed. The ASA added that Ice Age the ad is suitable for older children, but that the sexually suggestive material was unsuitable for young children.
