As it turns out, even though Kobe and Vanessa Bryant have decided to cancel their divorce proceedings and continue on with their married life, the proceedings ended up hitting Kobe's pocket hard, after all.
Recent reports revealed this week that the house given to Vanessa as part of their divorce proceedings last year sold for more than $3 million-which the wife of the five-time NBA Champion and former league MVP got to pocket.
Vanessa sold the couple's 6,000-square-foot mansion given to her by Kobe in the divorce proceedings--which began after she filed for divorce from Kobe in December 2011--for $3.22 million, which was one million dollars less than the original listing on the house.
The deal on the house closed days before the couple announced via social media that they were reconciling.
While the cancelled proceedings ended up costing the couple money, it was nothing compared to the price the basketball superstar, whose net worth is $360 million, could have ended up paying after child support and other costs that would likely cost Bryant upwards of $75 million.
When it was all said and done, however, it didn't cost Bryant nearly as much as other athletes who paid the price--and a steep one, at that--during divorce proceedings.
And now, here's a look at some of the most expensive athlete divorces in recent memory
Alex Rodriguez and Cynthia Scurtis
The New York Yankees slugger made the most expensive contract in the history of sports, earning $252 million over 10 years when he signed with the Texas Rangers in 2001. But part of those earnings and a $12 million mansion that he bought while married to Scurtis went to his ex-wife after she filed from divorce from A-Rod in 2008 amid allegations of Rodriguez's infidelity.
Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren
When word about the superstar golfer's extra-marital affairs broke out after he crashed his Escalade into a tree outside of his Florida home in 2009, Nordegren, a former model, ended her marriage with Woods, whom she married in October 2004. That settlement ended up costing Woods, who has two children with Nordegren, upwards of $100 million.
Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy
Jordan was easily one of the most recognizable athletes in the world in his prime, capturing a legion of fans in his career, along with pricey endorsements that made him one of the richest athletes on the planet.
So, naturally, he was due for a steep hit in the pocket after he and Vanoy, whom he married in 1989 and had three children with, parted ways in 2006. The settlement ended up costing the former Chicago Bulls icon $168 million, including the former couple's seven-acre estate in Chicago.
Greg Norman and Laura Andrassy
One of the greatest pro golfers of all time, Norman's split with Andrassay, a former airline stewardess, in 2006--ending a marriage that had lasted 25 years since 1981 and produced two children-wound up taking a great big bite out of the wallet of "The Great White Shark". The settlement that Andrassay ended up receiving as part of the divorce with Norman was estimated at $105 million.
Jeff Gordon and Brooke Sealey
Gordon, a three-time Daytona 500 winner and one of the most recognizable names in NASCAR racing history, became the first NASCAR driver ever to earn $100 million. But his alleged extramarital affair cost him in 2002, when Sealey filed for divorce-claiming she had videotaped footage that proved the infidelity-and took $15.3 million from the sale of two homes owned by Gordon as part of the divorce, thought the final details of the settlement were not disclosed.
