Not everyone was happy to see singer Selena Gomez at New York Fashion Week on Wednesday. While the 20-year-old "Spring Breakers" star attended the launch of the Adidas NEO Label in New York City, protesters stood outside of the event rallying against sweatshop abuse. Members of United Students Against Sweatshops passed out flyers criticizing the brand for their child labor policies and held a large banner that read "Selena: Don't Be An Ambassador For Sweatshops."
Adidas NEO is a label that was designed by teen bloggers who modeled the collection at the event. Afterward the teen hearthrob came on stage to thank the audience for their support. "So that was the very first Adidas NEO label fashion show created entirely by you guys so thank you so much for coming out, I'm so excited to be a part of this," said the former "Disney" star. She then proceeded to take photos with the designers/models and hurried off the stage.
During the event a man was escorted out by security after handing out protest literature. He was spotted later with the group of demonstrators in the cold.
"Adidas has refused to pay severance to 2,800 direct workers from Indonesia that sewed its apparel for over 10 years. Two of these workers are here today," one protester told a member of the press.
The singer/actress is the Adidas brand style ambassador along with her ex-boyfriend, pop star Justin Beiber, who was not at the launch event. Gomez also works with children's rights organization UNICEF.
