Frank Oz, famous for creating the voice of Yoda in the "Star Wars" movies, has stated that he would love to return if a spin-off movie is ever made of the Jedi master.
"He's in my heart, I know Yoda very deeply," Oz said to The Los Angeles Times. In "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" Oz created Yoda using a puppet. However, in the more recent movies ("Episodes 1-3") the character was created using computer generated imagery (CGI). Oz believes that the character can no longer be portrayed using puppetry. ""I think it depends on the story, but I think at this point you can't go back to the puppet," he said. "The reason George [Lucas] did the CGI, which I supported, was that he wanted to tell a story that would have been hampered by the physical limitations of the puppet."
Oz is the latest in a long line of Star Wars alumni that have expressed interest in returning for the upcoming films. Samuel L. Jackson previous stated his desire to revisit his character Mace Windu, while original trilogy thespians Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford mentioned their interest in reprising their iconic roles.
Disney recently mentioned that it would be working on a number of standalone "Star Wars" movies to supplement the main trilogy that will include "Episodes 7, 8, and 9." Among the rumored projects is a Yoda movie as well as one detailing the youth of Han Solo and another on Boba Fett.
"Star Wars Episode 7" is slated for a 2015 release. JJ Abrams has signed on to direct while Michael Arndt is writing the script.
