At only 26-years-old, Lena Dunham's success has reached such heights that writers in Manhattan's arts district are constipated with envy. Now, there is another reason to hate her for people who have struggled to climb up the ladder in the entertainment business. According to a report by Radaronline.com, Dunham's hit HBO series Girls has inspired a Girls reality show that is going to be produced by ABC.
Citing an unnamed source, the report says the network is trying to cash in on the hype around the HBO series by creating an unscripted adaptation starring Hailey Grassman. This is the same Grassman that was seeing Jon Gosselin, who is a father of eight, and starred with his now ex-wife Kate Gosselin in the reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8.
"They've already cast Hailey because she sort of epitomizes the mid-to-upper class 20-something trying to make it in New York City," the source said, adding that ABC has high expectation and "each character will be loosely based off one of the characters in the scripted show."
The series is going to be about a group of "cute" and single girls and their struggles to make it big in the Big Apple.
"This is going to be a group of extroverted girls who are well-educated, go to brunch on Sundays and bust their asses during the week to make ends meet," the source said.
Lena Dunham is the creative genius who came up with the idea. This is another notch she can add to her belt. Only last month she won a Golden Globe for best comedy tv actress and her HBO series won best comedy. She also got a controversial book deal from Random House worth $3.7 million based on a 66-page illustrated proposal, according to Gawker.
Girls is currently on its second season on HBO.
