Colin Kaepernick won't have very much time off in his second NFL off-season. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback will be working out in the Atlanta area within a week, according to an Associated Press report. Kaepernick plans to have some of his receivers with him there.
Kaepernick and the Niners fell just five yards short of the franchise's sixth Super Bowl in six tries on Sunday, losing 34-31 to the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans. He claimed to not be good enough in his second season to warrant a victory in the big game, though he earlier said that his team should have won the contest.
In the first half of Sunday's game, the 49ers were held to 6 points and trailed by 22 by the time their first possession in the second half came around. In the middle of a San Francisco three-and-out drive, the lights in the Super Dome went out. After a 30-minute delay, the Niners punted the ball, immediately stopped the Ravens' offense and scored the game's next 17 points. In that stretch, Kaepernick threw for a touchdown. He also ran for one in the fourth quarter, which pulled his team within two points. Only a failed two-point conversion prevented San Fran from tying the game for the first time since the first quarter, when the game was scoreless.
Kaepernick ended the playoffs with a 61.3 percent completion percentage, 798 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, 264 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. In the only game (of the three) that he didn't have a rushing touchdown and recorded only 26 yards on the ground, he completed 76.2 percent of his passes, showing that he could carry the offense even without the option of running.
The Niners QB said he will always remember his Super Bowl loss, but it will serve as additional motivation for a man who already has a landfill of it.
