A 7-year-old boy was suspended from school in Colorado for playing an imaginary game and throwing a make believe grenade, according to FOX31 Denver.
Alex Evans says he was saving the world but the 2nd-grader's imaginary explosives violated school rules that ban weapons that are real or imagined. When school administrators saw Evans pretend to throw a grenade into a box during recess at Loveland's Mary Blair Elementary school yard he was suspended.
Evans, who never threw physical object at anyone or anything during the incident, says he was just pretending to be a hero saving the world from evil. The boy's mother, Mandie Watkins, says her son is too young to understand what happened and why he was suspended.
"Honestly I don't think the rule is very realistic for kids this age," she said.
Watkins added that her son won't be playing in the school yard until this matter is resolved with school administrators.
The report did not specify the length of Evans's suspension. According to school rules, a student may be sent home when caught breaking the rules the first two times but a third violation results in a five day suspension.
