U.S. Olympic Skier Lindsey Vonn suffered a season-ending injury in a race in Austria on Tuesday. Tiger Woods' girlfriend crashed and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for further treatment. You can see her crash here, which came when she trailed the leader of the race by just 0.12 seconds.
Vonn tore both her ACL and MCL in her right leg and also fractured a leg bone in her fall, the Associated Press reports. She is expected to make it back in time to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The conditions on the mountain for the world championships in Schladming were an issue all day. The race was delayed by hours because of fog. Yahoo Sports pointed out that three of the next four competitors after Vonn also did not finish their runs. The race was stopped again after that point.
Vonn has had an unfortunate history of injuries in her career, with some other bodily malfunctions causing her most recent period of inactivity. She had intestinal problems that were finally resolved last month.
She has also received some national attention for her supposed relationship with golfer Tiger Woods. Vonn recently divorced her husband Thomas, with it being finalized in January. Woods has been divorced from his ex-wife Elin Nordegren since August of 2010.
Vonn was the first U.S. female athlete to win an olympic gold medal in the downhill event. She also has 16 season titles, including three first-place and one second-place spot in the standings in 2012 of the five events.
Will Vonn be spending more time with Tiger during or after her recovery? With the PGA Tour Events gaining steam, it's hard to tell. We'll keep you updated either way.
