The epic kiss at the end of last week's New Girl was a fantastic surprise, but as much as Nick-Jess shippers hoped it would mark the beginning of a new relationship, we sort of knew deep down it wouldn't be that simple. Prolonged unrequited romance is, after all, a sitcom staple.
And right on schedule, FOX has announced the casting of Nick's new recurring love interest, reports TVLine. Odette Annable, known for her roles in House, Brothers and Sisters and Breaking In, will play Shane, Nick's gorgeous new coworker who also happens to be his boss's daughter.

An organized, upbeat management school grad, Shane will "unabashedly" start a romance with Nick, says SpoilerTV. And TVLine adds that while "Nick's new gung-ho attitude at work will further stoke Jess' interest in her roomie, that fire will be tempered some when she catches sight of his flirty feisty colleague."
So what will happen between Jess and Nick? Zap2It's Laurel Brown offers this teaser: "Without giving too much away, let's just say that the pair will not be going straight down the romantic path into relationship bliss any time soon. Tuesday's (Feb. 5) episode makes that very clear. So Nick might as well date the hot boss in the meantime!"
Sorry, Nick-Jess shippers.
