Seth Gordon's "Identity Thief" starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy opens nationwide this Friday Feb. 8.
The movie tells the story of a mild-mannered businessman Sandy Patterson (Bateman), whose identity is stolen. As a result he hits the road in an attempt to foil the thief. The trip ends putting him in the path of a deceptively harmless-looking woman, Diana (McCarthy).
"Thief" entered development in 2011 and was originally set for a May release. However the launch date was brought back to its current Feb. opening.
Seth Gordon's previous directorial effort "Horrible Bosses" garnered rave reviews and was nominated for Best Comedy at the Broadcast Critics Choice Awards.
Jason Bateman was last seen in "The Longest Week," and "The Change Up" and is currently in production for his directional debut "Bad Words" which will star Allison Janney and Bateman himself.
McCarthy was nominated for the Academy Award for her role in "Bridesmaids." The actress then made a brief appearance in Judd Apatow's "This is 40" and will be seen this summer in "The Hangover Part III."
"Identity Thief" has not been screened for critics. Other stars featured in the movie include Jon Favreau, Amanda Peet, Genesis Rodriguez and John Cho. Universal will release the comedy in 3,000 US theaters.
