Telemundo Announces It Has Signed Deal With Lionsgate, Will Air Several Blockbusters Through 2017 Including 'The Hunger Games'

Spanish-language television network Telemundo announced on Monday that it had purchased the rights to several blockbuster films from Lionsgate Films to broadcast through 2017. The agreement, which will begin in 2015, will bring the box-office hit "The Hunger Games," along with 18 other films.

In a statement released by Telemundo Media, Vice President of Program Planning and Scheduling Maria Iregui said, "Hispanic audiences are truly passionate about movies and are more likely to go to the theater than any other ethnic group."

"We are delighted to extend and expand our partnership with Telemundo to include numerous current and upcoming films," Lionsgate President of Worldwide Television & Digital Distribution Jim Packer said. "Telemundo is an iconic brand serving the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. entertainment audience, and we believe that these titles will resonate with their viewers for years to come."

Iregui added, "Out agreement with Lionsgate Films will bring blockbuster releases featuring their favorite stars, including Sylvester Stallon, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, directly into their living rooms."

The partnership isn't the first between the two entertainment companies. According to the press release by Telemundo, the two partnered in the past to air the "Twilight" saga, "The Expendables," "The Expendables 2" and "Red."
