Miley Cyrus just got inked by celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D, and she posted a photo of the new tattoo on Twitter with the caption "ratta tat tat."
The tattoo sits just above her right elbow and is a fairly minimalist design featuring two criss-crossed arrows. The design is a symbol of friendship, says Kat Von D, who posted on Instagram, "Loved tatooing @MileyCyrus yesterday! Simple symbols of friendship make beautiful tattoos." She didn't reveal whose friendship the tattoo represents.
This is Cyrus's seventeenth tattoo, according to Steal Her Style. Some of her other tattoos include the words "Just Breathe" on her chest, "Love" in her ear, and a skull on her ankle. She also has matching tattoos with her fiance Liam Hemsworth (they both have Teddy Roosevelt quotes inked on their inner arms).
Cyrus told Harper's Bazaar in 2010 that each tattoo she acquires represents something significant in her life, and that the pain is worth it. "It really doesn't hurt if you're thinking about the meaning," she said. "I could never get a meaningless tattoo, but I think that if you're doing something that's important, that's significant in your life, it takes some of the pain away."
Kat Von D has inked several celebrities, including Lady Gaga "before she was famous," according to Radar Online. She has also tattooed Beyonce, Eve, Ewan McGregor, among many others.
LA Ink, the popular reality show that followed her Los Angeles tattoo studio, premiered in 2007 on TLC, and was cancelled in 2011 after four seasons.
