Golfer Phil Mickelson tied his previous career-low for a single round score at any course, matching his score of 60 from the 2005 Waste Management Phoenix Open on Thursday at Scottsdale TPC. Television coverage of Mickelson and the rest of the field will resume at 4 p.m. EST on Friday, with a live stream available to Comcast customers.
Comcast Cable subscribers can watch a live video stream of the Golf Channel and NBC Sports by giving their account information online. Click the video launcher on the PGA Tour page.
Lefty notched 11 birdies in his opening round, including the first four holes. He recorded birdies on two of the three par fives on the course, and even birdied the 16th hole, which is a par-three that is completely enclosed by stands filled with fans that cheer loudly, unlike traditional golf-watchers.
On the ninth hole (Mickelson's last of day one), he had a birdie putt that went around almost the entire rim of the cup before settling right next to it. By (barely) missing the putt, Mickelson missed out on a claim to fame that only one other PGA golfer has: recording a 59 in a single round on a PGA course. You can see highlights of that hole here.
