It appears Newark Mayor Corey Booker and New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg might see some political competition in the form of a Fox News Channel anchor.

Geraldo Rivera hasn't confirmed his name into the ring but is considering it.

"I mention this only briefly, fasten your seatbelt," Rivera said during his daily radio show. "I am and I've been in touch with some people in the Republican Party in New Jersey. I am truly contemplating running for Senate against Frank Lautenberg or Cory Booker in New Jersey."

Booker has confirmed his intentions to run for senate in 2014 while Lautenberg, currently 89-years-old, has yet confirmed his name for reelection.

"I'm not going to drill this out, because obviously I've got commitments to Fox and to here at the radio program and I'm really having a great time," he added.

No Republicans have yet stated their plans on running against Booker or Lautenberg.

"But I figure at my age, if I'm going to do it I've got to do it. And there doesn't seem to be any Republicans ready to work against or run against Corey Booker, the popular Newark mayor," continued Rivera.

Rivera currently hosts the weekend program "Geraldo at Large" for the Fox News Channel.

"As a moderate Republican, there is a point of view that is unrepresented in states like New Jersey. There can be a new revitalization of the Republican Party concept where we extol the virtues of good business and fiscal policy and where we fight the deficit and where we don't advocate the printing of money in obscene amounts just to cover our debts...," said Rivera this morning on "Fox & Friends."

He noted that he has over a year to fully consider a run before confirming his name in the race.

According to The Hill, the Garden State has not elected a Republican senator since the 1970s, however, their governor, Chris Christie, is a Republican.
