Beyonce lives the kind of charmed life most would kill for, but even the most adored woman in pop has problems. In the new HBO documentary, "Life Is But a Dream," the 31-year-old star opens up about the miscarriage she suffered prior to becoming pregnant with her now 1-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, the Daily Mail reported.
As The Huffington Post notes, Beyonce's husband, rapper Jay-Z, did reference the couple's heartbreaking loss in his song "Glory," rapping, "Last time the miscarriage was so tragic/We was afraid you'd disappear/But nah baby you magic," but Beyonce has never said a word about it until now.
"About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time. And I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life," the singer revealed in one scene. Beyonce reportedly goes on to explain that she and Jay-Z were thrilled with the pregnancy, and had even already chosen baby names, according to Us Weekly.
"I envisioned what my child would look like ... I was feeling very maternal," she said in the documentary. Their excitement however would be short lived. Something went wrong, and during a checkup the singer learned that there was no heartbeat.
Beyonce says she dealt with the tragedy the only way she knew how: through the healing power of music.
"I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I've ever written in my life ... And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through," she explained.
Of course, Beyonce went on to have a successful pregnancy with her daughter Blue Ivy, who was born last January.
"Being pregnant was very much like falling in love. You are so open. You are so overjoyed. There's no words that can express having a baby growing inside of you, so of course you want to scream it out and tell everyone," she said.
Beyonce will delve even deeper into the mystery that is Beyonce when "Life Is But a Dream" premieres on Feb. 16 on HBO.
