Nintendo has high hopes for Pokémon's sixth generation games, set to be released nine months from now.
Nintendo released their corporate management policy briefing and third quarter financial results briefing for the fiscal year ending in March 2013 and has noted the figures of the Nintendo 3DS and highlighted "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y."
Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo who also participated in the Pokémon Direct presentation earlier this month about the new games, said the company was not able to achieve the results they have originally forecasted, and slightly put the blame on the Wii U.
In the Japanese market, the sales of the Nintendo 3DS reached 10 million units in less than two years.
"This sales pace is slightly slower than that of Nintendo DS which penetrated the market at an explosive rate, but it is the second fastest-selling system to date, far exceeding the sales paces of all hardware systems before Nintendo DS," said Iwata. "While Nintendo 3DS did not get off the ground so well, we managed to place it back on an ideal sales track."
Nintendo games also didn't perform too well in the U.S. with only two 3DS games making in the top 20 software games chart at 10th and 14th places, both Mario games.
But Nintendo looks determined this year with some "key titles" that could "drive the market." The titles mentioned include "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y."
"Pokémon X/Pokémon Y," to be launched in October worldwide, could be the most-anticipated one...," said the Nintendo executive.
The new Pokémon games are technically the second 3D game of the franchise after "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity."
"Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" will be released in the same month, no word if on the same date, in October, across Australia, Europe, Japan, and North America.
