The San Jose Sharks (6-0-0) and Edmonton Oilers (4-2-0) are off to tremendous starts and will face off on Thursday night.

With the core players Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton aging, many pundits thought the Sharks would not be major contenders this season. However San Jose is the only team to not lose thus far. They have won five of their six matches by at least two or more goals including a 6-3 win over Edmonton on Jan.22. In their most recent match, the Sharks managed a 3-2 shootout win over the Anaheim Ducks. Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture provided the goals for the Sharks. Patrick Marleau, who started the season with eight goals in four games, did not score in the last match. He and Joe Thornton lead the Sharks with 14 points.

The Oilers are coming off a 2-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes. The offense of the Oilers was never in question, but the defense and goaltending have been better than expected this season. Goalie Devan Dubnyk has a solid 2.74 goals against average with a strong 91.6 save percentage.

When these teams last met, Marleau and Couture scored a pair each and San Jose jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first period. Thornton added three assists in that contest.

Predictions: San Jose is the better squad and should win; 5-2 San Jose.
