The Buffalo Sabres (2-3-1) will try to break their four game losing streak when they take on the Boston Bruins (5-0-1) on Thursday.
After winning their first two games, the Sabres have lost four straight. The team lost a home-and-home with the Carolina Hurricanes before handing the Washington Capitals their first win of the season. They then lost 4-3 against the Toronto Maple Leafs on a last second goal from Matt Frattin. The team's biggest issue has been on offense. Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville have combined for 19 points, but no other forward has scored more than three points in the Sabres' first six games. In their four losses, they have been outscored in the second period by the score of 7-3.
The Bruins have not lost all season in regulation. The lone blemish in Boston's season was a 4-3 overtime loss to the Rangers in New York but since then, Boston has put together three straight wins. After taking down the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 on Monday, the Bruins took down the New Jersey Devils in a -1 overtime victory. The Bruins were trailing in that game until a third period goal from Nathan Horton tied the score. Brad Marchand sealed the win in the shootout.
Boston won four of the six meetings last season between these two clubs.
Prediction: Boston is playing extremely well while the Sabres are struggling. Goaltending will be a major factor in this win, but Boston will reign victorious with a 3-1 win.
