"Star Wars Episode VII" has a writer, a director, and a producer, but it no longer has a firm release date according to numerous reports.
When Disney announced that it would be taking over the franchise, the company announced that the film would be released during the summer of 2015. However, recent reports indicated that director J.J. Abrams was not committed to any particular dates for the release of the film and it seems that Lucasfilm co-chairperson Kathleen Kennedy has her doubts about the timetable as well.
According to the Hollywood Reporter "[Kennedy] is less clear that the first film in the new trilogy will be ready in 2015." Kennedy noted that '"Our goal is to move as quickly as we can, and we'll see what happens...The timetable we care about is getting the story."
The difficulty of the scheduling might have to do with J.J. Abrams being attached to the "Star Trek" movies, a "Mission Impossible" film, and a "Cloverfield" sequel. Abrams is known for not rushing his projects. He recently refused to rush "Star Trek Into Darkness" for a 2012 release; the film is now slated for a summer 2013 launch.
Academy Award winner Michael Arndt is slated to write the script for "Episode VII."
