It took a long while to perform, but Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock did his best impression of Ray Lewis to complete a bet he had on an AFC Divisional Round playoff game. Hancock made a wager with Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake based on the outcome of the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos. If Peyton Manning and his new team had made the AFC Championship, Rawlings-Blake would have had to light the Washington Monument in orange and blue, the Broncos' colors. Because the Ravens prevailed 38-35 in overtime, Hancock had to send some Colorado-cut rib-eye steaks to Maryland and do the following dance.
The Denver Post has a transcript of the video here.
Hancock had to delay doing the dance because of an injury he sustained at the National Western Stock Show, but still kept his word.
Here is how Ray Lewis performs the same moves. Who do you think is better? (Video found by 99.9 the Point)
Rawlings-Blake also won her bet with Boston Mayor Tom Menino after the Ravens defeated the New England Patriots 28-13 in the AFC Championship Game. WBAL TV in Baltimore reports that the spoils from that wager (including seafood, pasta, cannolis and other deserts) were donated to the Cottage Avenue Community, a housing facility for up to 15 homeless families at a time in Baltimore.
Super Bowl XLVII begins at 6:30 pm EST on Sunday, February 3 on CBS. The Ravens will play the San Francisco 49ers in the championship, with Lewis playing the last game of his career, according to his own plans. The game is the second time in history that brothers who are head coaches will face each other in an NFL contest, with the only other one being a 16-9 victory for John Harbaugh and the Ravens over Jim Harbaugh and the Niners on Thanksgiving in 2011.
