Taylor Swift has made headlines with some of her recent sexy fashion choices--like her white gown with a plunging neckline at the People's Choice Awards earlier this month, and her red short shorts at the MTV Video Music Awards in December.
"As far as wardrobe, we have been operating from different place," Swift told the Associated Press.
Swift, 23, added that her sexier fashion choices just come with getting older, and seems bemused by the buzz generated by her more mature outfits.
"It was like, 'Gasp, Taylor wears shorts.' And I thought it was hilarious," she told the AP, recalling the reaction to her MTV Video Music Awards ensemble. "I'm not going to be like taking my clothes off or that sort of thing."
Swift's musical choices have evolved along with her style. Her hit song "I Knew You Were Trouble" is much more dance pop than country, and for the most part, even her more traditional country songs have less of a country twang and more of a pop sensibility than those on her first album.
Swift said she appreciates her fans supporting her as she branches out to different genres, and says she's particularly happy with the success of more pop-infused tracks like "I Knew You Were Trouble."
"The fans have been so good to me this year," she told the AP. "I wanted to make a genre-defying record, I wanted to make an album that was hard to pin down, and hard to box in."
Swift's latest album, Red, has sold more than 3 million copies since it was released in October 2012.
