Between rehearsing for the Super Bowl Halftime show and dealing with the lip-syncing scandal surrounding her inauguration performance, Beyonce found time to launch a new fragrance.
The new perfume, "Pulse NYC" is a tribute to New York, the singer says.
“I thought that now I am a New Yorker and I’ve learned about how I can accomplish anything in this city, I felt it was an appropriate energy for the new fragrance,” she said in a behind-the-scenes video from the Pulse NYC campaign photo shoot.
The ads for Pulse NYC feature Beyonce posing high above the New York City skyline. “Queen Bey towers high above New York City and looks stunning as she rocks a mirror-bedecked strapless mini that easily gives the Empire State Building a run for its ogle-worthiness,” said E! News. And, E! noted, the ice-blue and silver bottle for the fragrance looks like a skyscraper.
Pulse NYC is Beyonce’s fifth fragrance to date. She released her first fragrance, Heat, in 2010, which her website describes as “a unique expression of a woman’s powerful sensuality.” The ad campaign for Heat was controversial for its use of overt sexual imagery, and according to MTV, the UK “banned the commercial from the country’s daytime TV rotation.”
But in any case, Beyonce’s fragrances have been best-sellers since the beginning. ‘Heat’ reached around $3 million in sales within weeks of its release, according to Starpulse, and 70,000 bottles sold the first day.
