The Anaheim Ducks host the Vancouver Canucks in their home opener.
The Ducks had a dreadful season in 2011-12, but have gotten off to a tremendous start in 2013. The team opened up with a 7-3 thrashing of the Canucks before charging past the Calgary Flames 5-4. While the goaltending has been shaky through two games, there is no denying the offensive explosion this team has showcased. Five players on the team have accumulated at least four points through the two games.
Captain Ryan Getzlaf and 42-year old Teemu Selanne have two goals and two assists each. Correy Perry only has three points, but the secondary scoring through two games is exactly what this team needs if it plans to make a run at a playoff spot. Winger Bobby Ryan has registered zero points however despite the offensive explosion and will need to perform at a higher level to help this team.
The Vancouver Canucks' goaltending controversy will not go away despite assertions that Cory Schneider is the number one man. Schneider was chased by the Ducks in the home opener and was left out of the game against the Edmonton Oilers one night later. He did get the start on Wednesday against the Flames and managed to pull out a 3-2 win. Vancouver has been notorious for bad starts over the last few seasons, but the team does have the luxury of an 82-game season this year. Schneider needs to improve quickly if this team is to retain ownership of the Northwest Division Crown.
Predictions: The Canucks bring their A-game and pull off a 3-1 win.
