Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Justin Upton has been traded to the Atlanta Braves along with Chris Johnson in exchange for Martin Prado, Nick Ahmed, Brandon Drury, Randall Delgado and Zeke Spruill, MLB.com reports. Upton will play on the same team as his older brother B.J. for the first time in their respective professional careers.
Former Braves center fielder Michael Bourn is still available on the free agent market, with Atlanta now having almost zero incentive to give him another look. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman looks into Bourn's potential suitors and discusses the unique situation the best centerfielder on the open market is in. Despite their financial issues, Heyman seems to think the New York Mets are the best fit for the speedy outfielder. I think he'll be headed to Texas, since the Rangers seemed intent on landing Upton for a while earlier in the off-season, and could use a notable bat to amend for the departure of two team icons and another big bopper: Michael Young, Josh Hamilton and Mike Napoli respectively.
The Associated Press reports that a member of the 600-homer club is vouching for a friend's and his own spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Former Chicago Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa says he and Mark McGwire (formerly of the St. Louis Cardinals, among other clubs) should both be in Cooperstown for their achievements during their careers. Sammy also thinks the Cubs should retire his number, despite the rift he had with the organization under previous ownership.
If you've ever dreamt of 35,000 people hearing your voice 81 times a summer, the Boston Red Sox may have your chance. The Sox are holding open tryouts for their Public Address Announcer position this Saturday at Fenway Park from 10 am-4 pm EST. Former PA Announcer Carl Beane died in May and the team has been using substitutes ever since. On Wednesday, the team held tryouts for a much smaller group, which was hand-picked by the team.
